St. Peter's Cathedral

So sorry about the long wait....again....but I am sure you are all used to it by now. I am just a little slow. But as promised, here are the pics of the big cathedral. So St. Peter's Cathedral is part of the main square type setup in downtown Bremen. Cities are not set up the same way here, so I don't really know what to call it. But it was absolutely beautiful. They really don't make buildings like they used to. So this cathedral was first built as a catholic cathedral, as I think all cathedrals are. But of course, with the Reformation and Martin Luther, it is now Lutherin, just like everything else. So at the top of the right tower, you can see the black hole, we actually got to go up there, and those pictures will come later.

The art work on the whole building was absolutely stunning.

This was the lighting situation in the dark narrow stairwell leading up to the tower. Pretty creepy.
This is clearer, but the lighting was actually the dark red in the other picture. There are, I think, 260 or so stairs in this stairwell. To say the least, it was a good workout.
At the top of the stairs.

The big church bells.

The organ.

The candles are all lit by people that visit the church. You have to pay for it, just like everything else in Germany.
This explains the candles and basically says that the light represents the light in us that God lights, and that when hard times and troubles come, it stands as a sign of God's love and that he will always be there for us.
This is just the outside door. You should have seen it up close, the carvings are all in high relief and very detailed. Absolutely amazing.

Mitten Unter Freunden

Ok, ok! Yes, I am a slacker. So it has been a LONG time. Sorry about that. So to make up for it a little, I am posting 3 posts right after the other! So this will conclude the rest of my summer. Of course I have a lot of pictures that will not make it up here since there was so freakin many. So you will just have to wait until I get home. Also, there will be another post when I get around to it, just about St. Peter’s Cathedral. It deserves a post to itself. But I am tired tonight…

So as most of you know I went to a YSA convention here in Germany. It was for all YSAs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Or in other words, the German speaking area. It was so awesome. So I didn't actually take a whole lot of pictures....yeah, I know. I am a slacker. Actually I only took like 3 pictures...the ones of my room, because it was so weird having my own room, and a sink to boot! And then the guy on the bull was from Texas. He was nice. But he was like 18 so I ducked out of spending too much time with him....

This is Kim, from here in Northern Germany. She is in my stake and she got baptised actually a few weeks after this. She is a lot of fun and I really like her.

This is Amelia. So while I was there I met two Australien girls and they were pretty much exactly like me so we attached at the hip and were not seen apart for the remainder of the conference. The other was Tanyth, who was sitting on the other side of the table, who also has some pictures from the conference that I am planning on still getting. That being said, there may be an addition to this post when I get those pictures!

So yeah, this was the Tagung! It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed myself. If only I had gotten a picture of Hotboy....or better yet, with him!

Sommer

Basically my summer consisted of nothing, because the girls were always gone and there was just nothing going on. When they were home, it was just play time. So I didn't photograph a lot of that, but it was a lot of fun. Here are some pics of us having a small little fire in the backyard next to the tent the girls slept in for a week. We roasted marshmellows, although they were weird marshmellows so they tasted funny. But it was fun. And it was raining while we did it, but that was fun too!

Majlie turned 11! So we had a little party for her with family. She said she didn't want to have a party with her friends. She is hitting puberty right now so she is a little moody and she often tells us that she doesn't want anything to do with this person or that person on a particular day. So we just gathered as family and has a little cookout and gifts and such.

I spent a lot of time in Kiel with the YSAs and the missionaries. It was a lot of fun! I really enjoyed spending time up there and I made some really good friends, some of which will be in Utah with me next year! So I hope we stay in contact! I met Sina a few months back as she investigated the church. She always wanted to speak English with us as she is planning on being on of those at BYU next fall! So she got baptized on August 9th. It was really cool. I had gone to her apartment earlier that day and we had popcorn and watched chick flicks. Then I drove her to the church and helped out with the baptism. It was a really neat experience. It made me kind of feel like I was helping out Michelle too at hers, so it made me feel better about not being able to be there for her. I love you Michelley! She was investigating for a long time so a lot of missionaries had helped with her, and they all got permission to come. So we had 6 sets of missionaries. And I knew at least one from every set! So that was a lot of fun! Sister Taylor (the one in pink) was transferred a while ago, but I always felt like her and I would be great friends. So it was really nice to see her again!

After the baptism we all went out to eat at a little Turkish place. It was a lot of fun. This was the last time we were all together before the big transfer where most people were transferred. We spent a lot of time with the missionaries in Neumünster since they were so close, so I always think of the area with 3 sets instead of 2. Almost everyone was transferred. Sad day.

Sister Durham and I are planning on rooming together when we get back to Provo!

Some interesting things came out that night. I have some videos as well...

So other than that, it was pretty much uneventful. I got a package from my Michelle and my mom which was amazing! I enjoyed everything very much! So it was nice to have a few things from the good ol' US of A that I missed. I still dream about that beef jerkey...

This is my blog for my time in Germany. I thought this would be a good way for people to see what's going on while I'm there.
